Mapping handoffs when teams span office and remote

Why process maps must show channels and wait states, not only boxes, when people are not in one room.

Hybrid delivery hides delays inside chat threads and shared folders. A useful map names the channel of each handoff and the waiting state that follows—otherwise the picture looks cleaner than the work.

Capture exceptions as side notes, not infinite branches. Most teams need a readable main path plus a short list of known forks.

In our process and data mapping intensive, facilitators practise stopping detail at the level that unblocks the next decision. The map is a shared memory aid, not a complete digital twin.
